MBK Center
The multi-storey MBK is probably Bangkok's most legendary shopping mall, popular with both tourists and locals. Eight floors packed with 2,000 shops that sell everything from clothing, fashion accessories, handbags, leather products and luggage to furniture, mobile phones, electric appliances, cameras, stationery and DVDs. MBK (launched in 1986) is a beehive of activity, especially on weekends, when half of Bangkok converges to shop for bargains. It's not as up-market or stylish as neighbouring Siam Discovery, Siam Centre and the glitzy Siam Paragon, but it offers a mind-boggling range of goods spread over 89,000 square metres and is considerably less expensive.

Siam Paragon Shopping Center
Siam Paragon Shopping Center
Siam Paragon is an immensely popular shopping mall housing a host of international high-end fashion brands, Southeast Asia’s largest aquarium, a 16-screen Cineplex, and a comprehensive selection of world cuisine. Located prominently in front of Siam BTS Skytrain station - the interchange of the two BTS lines - it is considered by many to be the centre of Bangkok. Considering the mall contains over 250 shops, the layout is logical and fairly compact, certainly when compared to the sprawling Central World mall nearby. However, this mall provides mainly luxury items for well-heeled Thais and international visitors with cash to splurge. If you are looking for something extra-special then Siam Paragon is definitely the place to find it.

Terminal 21
Terminal 21
Named for its resemblance to an airport terminal and its location at Sukhumvit 21, Terminal 21 is right next to the busy Asoke intersection, connected with the BTS Asoke and MRT Sukhumvit stations. Each floor of this Bangkok shopping mall has a different theme based on various cities around the world, so it's like traveling to a new shopping venue when you hit each floor. And the designers placed gorgeous statues and icons of each city in their respective sections. For example, the bottom level, a Caribbean-themed supermarket floor, has some beach decor and a huge lighthouse right in the middle of the floor. If you enter the mall from the street or BTS skywalk, you will be in Rome and Paris, two floors dedicated to fashion brands.

Nahm
Australian-born David Thompson scoured century-old Thai cookbooks for his restaurant on the ground floor of Bangkok’s Metropolitan Hotel. He found obscure but big-flavour dishes, many of which hadn’t been seen for years, such as southern-style grilled mussels smoked with coconut husks then cooked with curry-infused coconut cream. Sharing plates are a perfect interplay of sour, sweet, salt and spice – the latter sometimes at inferno levels.

If there is one must-see sight that no visit to Bangkok would be complete without, it's the dazzling, spectacular Grand Palace, undoubtedly the city's most famous landmark. Built in 1782 - and for 150 years the home of the Thai King, the Royal court and the administrative seat of government - the Grand Palace of Bangkok is a grand old dame indeed, that continues to have visitors in awe with its beautiful architecture and intricate detail, all of which is a proud salute to the creativity and craftsmanship of Thai people. Within its walls were also the Thai war ministry, state departments, and even the mint. Today, the complex remains the spiritual heart of the Thai Kingdom.

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
The ancient city of Ayutthaya, or Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, The Thai capital for 417 years, is one of Thailand's major tourist attractions. Many ancient ruins and art works can be seen in a city that was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong when the Thais were forced southwards by northern neighbours. During the period of Ayutthaya being the Thai capital, 33 Kings of different dynasties ruled the kingdom until it was sacked by the Burmese in 1767. Ayutthaya is 76 kilometers north of Bangkok and boasts numerous magnificent ruins. Such ruins indicate that Ayutthaya was one of Indo - China's most prosperous cities. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya a Historical Park, a vast stretch of historical site in the heart of Ayutthaya city, has been included in UNESCO's list of world heritage since 13 December, 1991. Ayutthaya covers 2,556 square kilometers, and is administratively divided into 16 districts (Amphoes). It is conveniently accessible due to good roads and a short distance from Bangkok.

The Ananta Samakom Throne Hall
The Ananta Samakom Throne Hall
The centerpiece of Bangkok's own Champs Elysees, this impressive two-storey white marble palace sits at the end of Dusit's long, wide Royal Plaza, a leafy ceremonial boulevard that's often the focus of regal pomp and ceremony during royal celebrations. Ordered by King Rama V in 1907 and finished in the reign of King Rama VI, its neo-classical Renaissance architecture - particularly its central dome - dominate the scene just as Italian architects Mario Tamango and Annibale Rigotti intended. Following the 1932 coup it housed the first Thai parliament, but today its ornate interiors serve as a prestigious locale in which to court visiting dignitaries, hold state council meetings and royal occasions.

Wat Pho (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha), or Wat Phra Chetuphon, is located behind the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and a must-do for any first-time visitor in Bangkok. It's one of the largest temple complexes in the city and famed for its giant reclining Buddha that measures 46 metres long and is covered in gold leaf. It’s an easy ten minute walk between here and the Grand Palace, and we recommend coming to Wat Pho second, because even though the golden Buddha here is just as popular many people don’t take the time to wander around the rest of the complex so the experience tends to be far more relaxing. This is also a great place to get a traditional Thai massage. Wat Pho is often considered the leading school of massage in Thailand, so you really are in good hands here.

The temple’s construction was commissioned by King Rama I (1782-1809), to shelter the 13th Century bronze Buddha image transported by boat from Sukhotai, but it was finally completed during King Rama III’s reign (1824-51). Although most programmes are in Thai, there are some in English and the temple has become a popular place to learn the Vipassana Meditation (Insight Meditation). The temple was originally built to house a relic of the Buddha and one of the oldest temples in Bangkok. You can also have your fortune told inside the 'wat' (temple). Just next to the temple, every Sunday is the Bangkok's largest amulet market, where religious amulets, charms, talismans, and traditional medicine are spread on the ground to be inspected by buyers looking for one that will bring good luck or ward off evil. Different amulets are used for specific purposes; to bring money, restore health, deal with unrequited love or keep your enemies away. Choose carefully!

Health Land Spa and Massage
Health Land
The name ‘Health Land' is not new to health conscious people . As a matter of fact, Health Land was originally built around the concept of a health centre comprising a supermarket selling organic and healthy food, vegetarian restaurant, drug store, herbal garden, library, massage and meditation room, and seminar corner for those who wanted to discuss health matters. It was later turned into a complete spa service centre under the name ‘Health Land Spa & Massage'. Srinakarin is the first branch, followed by Sathorn, Pinklao, Pattaya, Ekamai, Chaeng Wattana, Asoke and Rama2. All Health Land location are uniquely structured on a stand alone basis with convenient access and spacious parking lots. While the settings are grand and luxurious, our services are priced at the same level as in general massage centres rather than the high-end spas found in hotels. Amphawa Floating Market
Amphawa Floating Market
Amphawa is the second most popular floating market near Bangkok, not as large as Damnoen Saduak but more authentic, with visitors almost exclusively Thai. Located 50 km from Bangkok this once small village was apparently already present in the mid-Seventeenth Century. It has become such a magnet for Thai weekenders that food stalls have grown from the riverbanks and stretched far into the surrounding streets. The main draw is of course eating seafood grilled procariously on wooden boats moored around the famous central bridge, serving an appetizing array of huge prawns, shellfish and squid. From noon until late in the evening, the smell is simply irresistible and customers flock to each side of the river all day long.

Jim Thompson House
Jim Thompson House
In 1959, 12 years after he discovered the fine silks being woven across the klorng in Baan Krua and single-handedly turned Thai silk into a hugely successful export business, American Jim Thompson bought this piece of land on Khlong Saen Saeb and built himself a house. It wasn’t, however, any old house. Thompson’s love of all things Thai saw him buy six traditional wooden homes and reconstruct them in this jungle-like garden. Some of the homes were brought from the old royal capital of Ayuthaya; others were pulled down and floated across the klorng from Baan Krua – including the first building you enter on the tour. In the former grounds of the 18th Century Wang Na Palace, The Bangkok National Museum houses the largest collection of Thai art and artifacts in the country. It's definitely worth a visit, especially if visiting nearby Wat Phra Kaew or the Grand Palace. Opened by King Rama V to exhibit the antiques and gifts bestowed to him by his father, it once held a reputation for being an ill-organised gathering of dusty relics. That has now changed, with exhibits now arranged into three areas consistent with Thai history, and good English-language descriptions available.

Historically, it dates back to the 1920s and was set to be an exhibition centre for Thai crafts and flower displays. They are given an hour to explore the room and pick up clues that will help them to solve a murder mystery. The clock starts ticking as soon as players enter the room and there are plenty of surprises in store to keep players on their toes. Soi Cowboy
Soi Cowboy
Soi Cowboy was named after the cowboy hat-wearing African-American who opened the first bar here in the early 1970s, this red-light district has a more laid-back, carnival-like feel to it than Patpong or Nana Plaza. Flashing neon lights up a colourful streetscape comprised mainly of middle-aged expats, Japanese and western tourists, and of course a lot of sexily dressed girls. With cries of 'helloooa, welcome!' the latter try to lure you into one of the 20 or so A go-go bars that line its sides... don't be shy, it's pretty easy going and open-minded, entry is always free and drink prices are fixed.

Khao San Rd
Khao San
The popular book 'The Beach' famously described Khao San Road as "the centre of the backpacking universe". Judging by the truth-seeking travellers who converge here to shop, exchange tales and prepare for their next stint on the backpacker trail, it's a phrase that sums it up pretty much perfectly. Packed into a 1km long strip are countless budget guesthouses and mid-range hotels, internet cafes, swanky bars and clubs, restaurants, massage parlours, travel agents, bookshops, market stalls, tattoo shops and much, much more. So much in fact, that the people, peddlers and party spirit have spilled over into nearby Soi Rambuttri. With its carefree, anything-goes vibe, it's quite unlike anywhere else in Bangkok, and so infectious is its atmosphere it's also popular with locals, especially young hipsters and art students.

Nana Plaza
Nana Plaza
Located in Sukhumvit Soi 4, Nana Plaza is Bangkok's naughty central. Notorious for its racy themed go-go bars - from school-girl and leather dominatrix to ladyboy - it's a three storeys of eye-popping activity all focused around a square-shaped central atrium. Unlike at the better-known Soi Cowboy or Patpong, Nana Plaza is a 'more adult' scene. That means no families, no markets and few curious tourists strolling in for a look. It is still worth a look if you are looking for an exotic visual experience, and a photo to talk about when back home.

Baiyoke Tower 2
Baiyoke Tower 2
With 84 stories the Baiyoke Tower is an unmissable towering landmark in Pratunam area. The skywalk with large viewing windows on the 77th floor is the best place to get sweeping bird’s eye views of the skyline floor while the revolving rooftop observation deck on 84th floor is a bit too noisy and hot to keep visitors very long. Bayoke is currently the tallest building in Thailand, at 309 metres. Adding the 34.35-metre spire, the building is 343.35 metres tall in total. Baiyoke Tower (pronounce 'Bayok') is an aging hotel built in 1998, and has mostly become an attraction and a shopping complex all in one. The area where the tower stands is the famous Pratunam market with thousand shop all selling clothing and garments.

Royal City Avenue
RCA
Royal City Avenue - more commonly known as RCA - is the epicentre of Bangkok's clubbing scene and an officially designated nightlife zone so you can be assured of a party seven nights a week. Clubbing institutions like Route 66 and Slim are packed every night and, at weekends, they're rammed to capacity. There are so many options for visitors to RCA; enjoy international DJs, as well as live concerts and soundtracks by popular local artists all in one night. RCA is separated into four blocks: Block A is closest to Rama 9 Road, and, at the opposite end, Block D leads onto Petchaburi Road. RCA is too far from public transport to walk so it requires a taxi or motorcycle journey.

Q Bar
Funky, fashionable and unwaveringly popular, Q Bar in Bangkok has been spinning quality dance and party music to the city’s socialite crowd for over ten years. This bar-slash-club is more exclusive than most other clubs in its vicinity, and patrons really make an effort and dress to impress. Q Bar is not the kind of place you would stumble on as it’s located quite a distance down Sukhumvit Soi 11 (one of the main party hotspots in Bangkok), and that’s just the way the management like it.
